Short story
Leela Robinson is a compassionate advocate for creating balance and harmony in life through self care, care for each other, and care for the earth. Based in middle Tennessee, she is in private practice as a massage therapist, teaches massage and yoga, and consults for permaculture lifestyle design. Leela knows well the therapeutic value of yoga and bodywork in recovering from personal injuries and managing stress-related tension and seeks to help clients and students by meeting them where they are through a balance of knowledge, inquiry, and intuition. Students and clients learn breath oriented awareness practices and self care exercises for a strong and supple body, clear mind, and open heart through affordable bodywork sessions, group yoga classes, and private yoga sessions.

Long story
Leela is a compassionate advocate for creating balance and harmony in life through self care, care for each other, and care for the earth. Growing up in rural Oregon, Leela recognized nature as her greatest teacher. Motivated by a strong desire to practice care for the earth, she went on to study Environmental Planning at the University of Oregon. She worked in long range transportation planning in the public sector in Eugene OR and served on the State of Oregon's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. During this time in Eugene, OR, Leela became progressively more attentive to yoga and the healing arts, in particular for relief from job-related stress. A serious accident in her early 20's gave her personal experience with the therapeutic value of yoga and bodywork in recovering from injury.

Eventually, the yoga path and a desire to serve in a way that focused on individual transformation led her to the Ananda Ashram in Nevada City, California, where she lived for three months and took her first teacher training course in 1999. Leela began teaching yoga in 2000 while attending massage school on Maui. Hawaiian style lomilomi massage, with its emphasis on presence and pleasurable, deep tissue bodywork, was her focus. While living on Maui, Leela began practicing mindfulness meditation and today remains committed to this practice. It was upon returning to Oregon in 2002 that Anusara yoga, with its universal principles of alignment and heart oriented philosophy became her primary yoga influence and she now has over 300 hours of Anusara training, and over 1000 hours of yoga training total. Leela practiced massage in Oregon in chiropractic offices, an upscale day spa, and as an independent business owner, while also teaching yoga in a variety of settings ranging from health clubs to yoga studios. Now based in middle Tennessee, Leela continues to practice massage and to teach yoga classes and private sessions that are grounded in Anusara principles. She has taught yoga and breathing workshops for church groups and for massage therapists through the AMTA-TN chapter. In 2009, Leela began teaching massage to students enrolled in the massage therapy program at Georgia Career Institute in McMinnville TN. She continues her exploration of yoga, bodywork and massage through traveling for ongoing continuing education programs, such as Thai Yoga Massage.

Along with her husband Michael Robinson, owner of Green Village Plants nursery in Morrison TN and yoga practitioner, Leela studies and aspires to the sustainable living principles of permaculture design. She and Michael are Certified Master Gardeners and Certified Permaculture Designers, and offer consulting services and workshops. Their shared passion is to offer organic gardening and landscape design workshops that integrate yoga and meditation for sustaining self, community, and the earth.
